Background:
Daw Khin Than Nyunt is a 68 year old Grandmother living in Yangon, Myanmar and  had been suffering from weakness and pain from both Knees for over 5  years.  
The pain and disability had been getting worse for the past 6 months and she was unable to walk without a family member to assist her. She was introduced to Kuang Tien General Hospital by a friend who had been treated here for the same condition. Her initial X-rays revealed joint narrowing in both knees indicating advanced osteoarthritis. She had her X-rays reviewed by Dr Tseng ( Chan San Win) one of  Kuang Tien¡¦s Orthopedic consultants who  confirmed that she needed  bilateral Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. Subsequently she applied for a medical treatment visa to Taiwan and arrived here by a 4 hour direct flight. After admission to our hospital she had bilateral TKR performed by Dr Tseng who is a Burmese surgeon trained in Taiwan. Post-surgery, she was taken care by our multidisciplinary team of nurses, rehabilitation staff, and physicians. 
With the assistance of our physical therapist she started to use Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machine to do exercises. By the time she was discharged from the hospital, she was able to walk with a walker and her surgical site was clean and dry, without any complications. After 8 days of detailed monitoring and care from our multi-disciplinary team, she returned home with a big smile.
