Kuang Tien General Hospital Awarded the Certificate of Health Promotion Hospital Membership from the WHO International Network
In 1979, the US Surgeon General published the following report: The Surgeon-General's Report on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, which stated that over fifty percent of all deaths are caused by living an unhealthy lifestyle. This report began a worldwide focus on preventative medicine.
It has always been a priority for our hospital to provide the highest quality of medical and preventive care to our patients. Our tireless efforts in health promotion and disease prevention has earned us recognition in February of 2009. We were awarded the prestigious certificate of World Health Organization Collaborating Center (WHO-CC) for Evidence Based Health Promotion in Hospitals (HPH) by the CEO of the Secretariat, Dr. Hanne Tonnesen.
Our implementation of preventative care-focused routines into all aspects of our operations has garnered us many positive reviews from the HPH Committee. These activities include reminding women of ages 50 to 69 to take a routine mammography examination every two years; advising woman age 30 and above to take a yearly pap smear; promoting the benefits of the maternal breast-feeding program; sending a community health check-up shuttle bus and physical examination shuttle bus into communities to provide health check-up services; holding frequent healthy lifestyle promotion activities in neighboring communities; encouraging an exercise atmosphere for employees; and promoting the green hospital project to implement trash classification - reducing the amount of waste and overall power consumption. The above-mentioned activities reflect our attention to worldwide health promotion issues as well as increase public attention to preventative medicine.
Kuang Tien General Hospital will continue to strive to promote the benefits of living healthy lifestyles and remain one of the leading innovators in the area of preventative care. |
