Background:
Ms. T is a German living in Denmark. She had been troubled by tinnitus. She had done expensive exams in different European hospitals, but the causes of her tinnitus remained undetermined. Fortunately, through the internet she found out about Tinnitus expert - Kuang Tien General Hospital’s ENT Chief Lai. At the same time her husband accepted a job offer in Taiwan, so she seized the chance to arrange for an executive outpatient appointment. After consultation, Dr. Lai arranged detailed hearing examinations and CT. Ms. T and her husband were surprised to find medical services are so accessible in Taiwan because in Germany, it takes three months to half a year to schedule for the same exams.
Six month after the treatment, Dr. Lai flew to Bruges for International Tinnitus Seminar. When he arrived the hotel he met Ms. T and her husband unexpectedly. They wanted to know the first hand tinnitus information, so they followed the doctor’s footsteps to the seminar.
After the conference they had dinner together. Dr. Lai noticed that Ms. T had 7-8 cups of coffee, with 7-8 packs of sugar in each cup. In fact she usually had at least 20 cups of coffee, with excessive amount of sugar each day. Dr. Lai diagnosed that Ms. T had taken too much sugar that affected her vein osmolarity and consequently caused pulsatile tinnitus. After adjusting her dietary habits, her condition improved a lot. Because of her trust to the medical team, she still chose to come back to Kuang Tien four years later for a follow up.
