Heritage
In the early days of Japanese rule in Taiwan, medical resources were very limited. In 1913, Dr. Wang Tongzhong returned to his hometown, Shalu, and founded Ren Sheng Hospital. In 1921, he established Yang Zhen Hospital. He traveled on horseback to remote areas to provide medical care, aiming to help as many people as possible.
In 1938, despite the challenges of war, he continued to serve his community. During the Japanese Imperialization movement, he renamed the hospital to "Guang Tian Hospital."
When World War II broke out, medical needs became even more urgent. Dr. Wang Yu-Lin, his eldest son, left his career in Taipei and returned to Shalu to take over the hospital. He led Guang Tian through the war, bringing new healthcare opportunities to the coastal region.
In 1967, Guang Tian founded Hong Guang Nursing School, training many nurses and making the hospital a top teaching facility in central Taiwan.
In 1987, Dr. Wang Nai Hong returned to Taiwan from the U.S. to continue the family’s mission. He brought international medical ideas and innovations to Guang Tian, introducing smart healthcare and precision treatments, and beginning a new chapter in the hospital’s history.
After three generations of hard work, Guang Tian Hospital has grown into a large institution with over 1,500 beds and 2,500 staff. It is the oldest private hospital in Taiwan, setting a new standard for sustainable healthcare.
System
From its roots in Shalu, Guang Tian has always been committed to protecting the health of this land. Today, our network spans across the Shalu, Dajia, and Tongxiao areas. Whether it's outpatient care, surgeries, or services for both urban and rural communities, everything we do reflects Guang Tian's core mission, leading us to a new milestone — the Xiangshang District.
This nearly 40,000-ping smart healthcare park, with almost 900 beds, is more than just a hospital. It's a health city that combines cutting-edge medical technology with compassionate care.
Guang Tian's growth goes beyond just expanding our hospital. As society ages, we integrate healthcare and long-term care to provide continuous services. We connect medical care, education, long-term care, and charity, bringing healthcare to every corner of the community.
Our care extends beyond the hospital. From the "Ageless Riders" and "Ageless Baseball" to support for women, children, and winter warmth campaigns, Guang Tian, in partnership with the Hong Yu and Hong Dao Foundations, brings warmth and healthcare to everyone, making a lasting impact on the health of our community.
Excellence in Medical Care
Half a century ago, Guang Tian Hospital pioneered cancer treatment in the coastal region. From the cobalt-60 treatment machine to modern precision treatments, we’ve always been at the forefront of life-saving medical care.
Emergency and Critical Care
In the face of traumatic injuries, strokes, heart attacks, high-risk pregnancies, and critically ill newborns, Guang Tian has a 24/7 emergency rescue system. Our multidisciplinary team provides immediate care and ensures smooth transitions to recovery services, making us the most trusted emergency medical center in the coastal region.
Holistic Cancer Care Center
With the creation of the Xiangshang District, we bring hope and healing to cancer patients. Alongside precision treatments, we combine art and humanistic care, creating a holistic healing space that is unique in Taiwan.
Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Care
Guang Tian is the third hospital in Taiwan approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to offer autologous stem cell treatment for bone and spine care. We provide new hope for spinal cord injury patients and use advanced surgeries, like the Mazor and ROSA robotic arms, for precise treatment. Additionally, we’ve launched a new sports medicine center.
Brain Health Care
For brain health, including stroke, brain injuries, and dementia, Guang Tian has received multiple quality certifications, ensuring our care is of the highest standard.
Caring for the Vulnerable
A century ago, Guang Tian was there when it mattered most — providing medical aid, rural health clinics, and elderly care. Today, we continue to offer age-friendly services and the spirit of "agelessness," working with the Hong Dao Foundation to help the elderly rediscover their passions and dreams. We also partner with the Hong Yu Foundation to support new immigrants, children with rare diseases, and disadvantaged families, ensuring that hope and love continue to flourish.
Happy Guang Tian
At Guang Tian, we believe that the health of our staff is key to providing quality care. The executive vice president listens to staff needs and actively promotes their health. We’ve created rest areas, fitness facilities, and wellness programs to support our staff, helping them find moments of relief in their high-pressure work environment.
A Century of Persistence
For 112 years, Guang Tian has remained dedicated to its mission of care and medical innovation. Moving forward, Guang Tian will continue this mission, safeguarding every precious life.
